Therapy Approach

    Therapeutic Approach

I use a Client-centered, non-directive form of Talk therapy to help clients develop a deeper sense of awareness and self-efficacy:

Client-centered Therapy:

My clients are the experts in their lives and are therefore best able to decide what to explore and how.

I’m an Accountability partner guiding clients to healthier living:

I support my clients to keep their commitments and maintain progress while also providing unconditional positive regard as my clients adjust to new behaviors.

My Beliefs

-My clients are innately creative, resourceful, and whole

Sustainable change in behaviours and development of a Growth mindset must originate from the client and should align with their values and vision of Health and wellness

                The Process

Client sessions typically start with a “Discovery phase” where discussions center around the client’s current Health state (Meridith may have the client complete Health Risk, Grid Well-being, Biometric, wellness Inventory, or other assessments), and their reasons for seeking counselling.

Following these first few sessions, Meridith will often guide the client to develop their own Wellness Vision ( A client’s “Big picture” view of their ideal selves in 6 months to a year, where they have achieved optimal wellness). A Wellness Vision provides the clients with a long-term goal, and it gives them a focus as they  fill in the gaps from where they are now, to where they’d like to be in the future. Once the Wellness Vision has been set, Meridith will help the client create some S.M.A.R.T goals – Action steps, which help build the client’s self-efficacy and motivation as they move along the path to better health.
